THE CROSS OF THORNS

The work draws upon nature itself to create the iconic form. The original forms from which the cross was modeled were gathered from the forest. The symbolism is the natural cycle of life, that we are all part of nature, all growing things and even something as abstract as a cross is part of that cycle, which lies at the heart of the symbolism of birth, death and resurrection-rebirth. I have embraced this imagery to create, of the cross, a natural growing thing, that symbolizes in the metonymy of the thorns growing into the cross, its eternal nature.
